Entirely incapable of performing the one function its designed for. DO NOT BUY. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!! This app is garbage.

As a university professor who travels overseas frequently, I bought this app in spite of the lousy reviews it has received. Guess what? The lousy reviews are accurate. The software recognition part of this app is non existent. After it fails to recognize words printed in block letters, it asks you to type in the letters yourself. So the app cannot translate anything on the fly. You are better off using the app itranslate--a much more accurate and cheaper app. Please do not waste your money buying this app.

Okay, you may not want to rely on this app for handwritten language but I use it often to translate languages in screenshots taken on my iPhone. I like it the best because its fast and accurate.

The character recognition in the photo feature is weak at best...only works about 20% of the time. Nice idea but lame especially since I paid for it.

I got this app to help me during a trip to Paris; the camera option didnt even work once, and the manual translate worked seldom at best. It needed an internet connection which wasnt always so readily available overseas. All in all I wouldnt waste $5 on this.

After 45 minutes of retaking pictures repeatedly, I cannot get a decent translation of Japanese text. Theres no issue with font and the photo is clear yet I get results like this: vine 丶遁 苳 knee 丶苳 丶 butterbur 苳 your 苳苳, two and rear cable;,, pot 曼遁 Natural rod doctor two, mu poison given `butterbur 丶 Release - 櫑苳: ® Just gave 5 dollars to an app that absolutely does not work. Do not waste your money like I did. :(

Tried to use this as a Japanese translator and the results were incomprehensible.

Unfortunately this app will not translate Japanese text. After multiple attempts, every one was unsuccessful. The results were always completely unintelligible.

This is very bad at recognizing complex characters. I would not recommend this app in fact I would like a refund. Not good enough.

Out of sheer desperation, I found this app, which is something all other translation apps need to be able to do, take existing text and verify accuracy visually. While I was using hand written letters from my great-aunt to my late grandmother, the app would add characters or misinterpret characters, something I expected as the letters were hand written. To callibrate, I selected printed pages from a Japanese-English dictionary and was met with similar if not more severely flawed results. I was unable to have this app successfully read "February" written in any form of Japanese in physical type written print or hand written. App is sorely needed to fill the gap especially for non-Latin based languages.

Excellent app, But need to language recognizer

I was psyched I found this app when I spent a week in Japan, thinking this would help me in a big way. Wrong! Out of 10 tries using photos of clear commercially printed Japanese signs, fliers, or menus the resulting translations were all as meaningless as the Japanese version. Random English words strung together with a few Japanese characters sprinkled in.

This app is one of the reasons carrying an iPhone is revolutionary. Amazing to be able to translate text wherever you go. Its also handy for basic OCR, saving transcription time. Translations will not be perfect. You cant expect that.

Thai translations are horrible and useless. Theres some humor value regarding how bad they are, but that wears off quickly. If you want actual translation, look elsewhere.

I was not able to translate a single word. Last of $7.

It works fine for me to write something to a Thai person, but its pretty useless when you cant use a Thai keyboard to respond. You cant type Thai with a roman keyboard. The photo translation doesnt work at all. It was funny the first time how poorly it worked, not it just feels like a waste of money.
